Biography
Sharron Dalton's teaching and research interests are in food choice behavior, childhood obesity and the dynamics of body weight management, and international nutrition. She teaches advanced nutrition courses including Nutrition for Weight Control and Pediatric Nutrition.
 
Concerned with the health of children in city schools, Dr. Dalton is on the School Food Plus Coalition, advisory group to The New York City Department of Education, Office of Support and Food Services. Her work with the Road Runners Foundation program to provide physical activity leadership in city schools also promotes healthy eating.
 
In 1994-1995, she was a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal and taught at the National University in Kathmandu, where she addressed issues related to the nutritional health of children and women in the social and political development of the country. Dennis Dalton, her husband, also a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal and Professor at Barnard College , Columbia University , met in Nepal in the early 1960s on a Peace Corps type program and have returned many times to the villages in India and Nepal for research and volunteer work. Sharron has also led New York University graduate student seminars in Germany, England, Ireland, and Puerto Rico .
 
Professional Activities
  • Presentations and workshops to community and professional groups on issues in childhood obesity and weight management.
  • Experience as a clinical dietitian, dietetic internship director, private nutrition practitioner and education specialist for a non profit nutrition organization.
  • Membership in the American Dietetic Association (ADA)1, North American Society for the Study of Obesity (NASSO), The American Obesity Association (AOA), and Society for Nutrition Education (SNE).
